SPACECRAFT – creation by Gary Brunton

MESSAGE FROM GARY BRUNTON :  Since 2019, I have been leading a series of original jazz projects inspired by travel and various modes of transportation. Following on from the bus with Night Bus and Second Trip, and the train with Trên Dydd and Gwawr, this time, I will take off in a Spacecraft. Let’s continue this journey together. For my next creation, I have chosen to form a quintet bringing together musicians from the new generation, five crew members aboard my "Spacecraft", ready to explore new musical horizons. Since the United Kingdom left the EU in 2020, I have been striving to maintain collaborations with artists from my country of birth. The Spacecraft project embodies speed, space, and expertise. I compose specifically for each member of the group, creating forms and rhythmic patterns that stimulate their creativity in improvisation. This quintet brings together charismatic melodies, modern fusion, groove, rock, and fiery improvisations, driven by the exceptional talents of Emma Rawicz, Léa Ciechelski, Benjamin Garson, and Simon Goubert. CHANSONS ET SONS D’ANCHES – LIVE ALBUM

Radiosax puts the saxophone in the driver’s seat. Jean-Paul Mallet, Pascal Gaubert and Philippe Chagne are the main drivers. The most beautiful and popular melodies from the « la chanson française » repertoire in Jazz ! Even if jazz has often courted the “la chanson Française », musical projects that have devoted themselves exclusively to the genre and its great authors and composers are rare. The saxophone is at the heart of RADIOSAX; its notes replacing the words. The five players are accompanied, backed and propelled forward by a dream team rhythm section. The repertoire of the album is exceptional and the original arrangements give us a new look at popular songs without distorting them. Jazz fans, as well as lovers of “la chanson française” will be enchanted, a bit surprised, but never thrown off the track.

UP THE MISSISSIPPI – NEW ALBUM

We’re going up the Mississippi with Jay and The Cooks. We are traveling through sound landscapes that unify. Blues, Zydeco, Rock, Country, Folk : a real cake walk through North American music Despite the different styles, Jay has succeeded in creating links & bridges to guide us up the river. It seems to reduce distances between genres which offers us a pleasant trip up along the old river. Like all the States one crosses going up the river, the album is unified in its diversity. From Louisiana to the Great Lakes: sounds, many and varied, but with strong roots. The sessions were recorded on good old analogic tape to make sure we stayed in the mood; with musicians that know North American roots music, a studio recording with a decidedly live feel. Most compositions are original, no-frill texts, stories about society and some timeless hits. Jay put a great deal of thought into the album but kept it spontaneous and authentic. The trip starts in Louisiana where alligators roam and some sing in French. We finish up the exploration near the Great Lakes, and the source of the river in Minnesota, the birthplace of Bob Dylan and his protest songs.
